Kind of offensive to me that most Saint Rita of Cascia representations depict her stigmata as just a little red dot, just the touch of a wound, when we know for a fact it was infested with maggots and had a stench so bad people didn’t want to be near her. It pisses me off that we diminish something that not only was a mark of her grace before God, but also the reason why she was avoided by her peers, practically marginalized inside of her own home, by her fellow nuns.

Let the woman be Weird, is all I’m saying. Let’s not forget that sometimes the sign that God favors someone isn’t pretty to see. Let’s train ourselves to not look away.
